Hello, Ello! There's a New Social Network In Town
Ello.co made a splash when it launched in beta last week, describing itself as the only social network dedicated to “beauty, simplicity and transparency.” The site promises an ad-free user experience and minimal, anonymous data collection via Google Analytics.
Social giants Facebook and Twitter have come under fire for targeted advertising, manipulative practices, and deceptive privacy policies, making Ello an appealing option for users who prefer to do their socializing without sponsors. If the new network is able to attract a mass exodus of users from other platforms, it’s likely to become a quick favorite.
While Facebook is abuzz with users trading Ello invitations and posting about the network’s features, businesses wonder whether or not they should jump on the bandwagon. We know advertising won’t ever be an option, but can joining the network in its early stages help your company build its reputation?
For the time it takes to set up an Ello profile, we say yes. Get in early, set up your account, and use email and other social networks to help your fans follow you there.
Just remember – users are coming to Ello to avoid being spammed with advertisements. Be extremely selective about the content you post to avoid irritating your followers. Before you update your status, think: does this offer something of value to my audience? Unless you can answer that question with an enthusiastic, “Yes!” you shouldn’t post it.
Like everyone else, we’re new to Ello ourselves, but we’re experts on social media etiquette, and we’re ready to help. Contact us today to learn more about reaching your target audience wherever they happen to socialize!
